Milton Keynes’ trade unions again organised a commemorative event to mark International Workers’ Memorial Day (IWMD). IWMD gives everyone an opportunity to remember those who have been seriously injured and those who have died as a result of an accident at work, and also people who suffer from work-related illnesses.
The internationally recognised date for IWMD is April 28th every year; in Milton Keynes the event was marked on the preceding Sunday (April 24th 2016) at the MK Rose, Campbell Park. Key speakers included Cllr Keith McLean (Mayor of Milton Keynes), Cllr Pete Marland (Leader of Milton Keynes’ Council), and a national officer from UNISON trade union. The event was marked by a minutes’ silence and the laying of wreaths.
Milton Keynes’ IWMD event was well attended by people from all walks of life, through a common belief that everyone should be safe at work. Please keep up-to-date on this website and on our Facebook page for details of future events. You can also visit our gallery on this website for some images from the day.
Remember the dead, fight for the living.
