MILTON KEYNES PALESTINE SOLIDARITY CAMPAIGN
In May 2010 a Branch of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign was established in Milton
Keynes. There is now a Committee of 10 people, 89 paid up members, 200 supporters
and 7 affiliated organisations.
THE PURPOSE OF THE BRANCH is to help raise awareness of the situation in the
Occupied territories and to campaign and advocate for Palestinians’ civil, political and
human rights in accordance with International law.
The Israeli onslaught on Gaza in 2009, the Israeli attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla in
international waters in 2010 and the continuing siege of Gaza has shocked the world and
has brought the plight of the Palestinians to world attention.
THE BRANCH AIMS to run a variety of activities including information stalls, talks,
film shows, letter writing and boycott campaigns, together with some fund raising events.
Many TRADE UNION members were very active in the Anti Apartheid movement and
it is interesting to note that Archbishop Desmond Tutu, after a visit to Palestine said “it
reminded me so much of what happened to us black people in South Africa – the
humiliation of Palestinians at checkpoints and roadblocks, suffering like us when young
white police officers prevented us from moving about”.
As a member of the GMB I am proud to say that the GMB MK City Branch was the
first Trade Union in Milton Keynes to affiliate to the Milton Keynes PSC and since then
5 other MK Trade Union Branches have affiliated – MK CWU, MK NUT, Bletchley
ASLEF, PCS DWP Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire and most recently UNISON – MK
Council Branch.
